My electricity is back on!

We got 14 inches of snow here in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, and it was about 15ºF (-9ºC) last night. The power went off repeatedly on Saturday, but it came back on after a few minutes. Around midnight, it went out for an hour. At about 4 a.m. it went out again, and didn't come back on until 12 hours later. While it was out, we had no heat or light.

It stayed above 60ºF (15ºC) in our apartment, so that wasn't too terribly uncomfortable. Both little Stefano and his mom have claustrophobia though. The pitch-dark really rattled them, and they couldn't sleep until daybreak. The dark didn't bother me much, but I need an assistive breathing device (sort of like a ventilator) due to obstructive sleep apnea. Obviously, that didn't work without electricity, so I got very little sleep either - just a 3-hour nap when the power came back on this afternoon.

In a sort of irony, last week I had to file for bankruptcy in order to keep the power from being cut off.

So, for many reasons, I'm happy today to have electric service working!

Wow Stefano, you've really had it rough lately.
Seeing you still finding happiness is encouraging.

Hope times will change for the better of you. And that you'll be happy often.

Thank you, Hyke. Reading your post made me happy today!

I've realized that my outlook - and many of my past posts - tend toward the negative. I'm trying to fix that, in spite of whatever circumstances may be present. Mostly, that's led to posting even less than I usually do. Ranting is just so much easier to do. I never knew that happiness was such hard work!

That is a quote for the ages.

Nice to hear your change of outlook, Stefano.

Actually I'm not sure if this is happy or sad--or both, but very interesting. History, especially local history, is my particular special interest. Today I found an online version of a local (well, nearby small town) newspaper from the day I was born. It's strange, I hadn't realized how much the world has changed in my lifetime---it looks SO different! http://udn.lib.utah.edu/cdm4/document.php?CISOROOT=/vernal4&CISOPTR=232483

I've made great progress at composing for my musical, working on two songs at the moment. :) Maybe piano lessons soon. When the power was out, I got to play my clarinet by candlelight, snow falling by the window, flying around. Not as cool as by the Dry Falls and the clearing, but yes very. :D Glad the window's closed in my room, at least, so I sleep above freezing.

A small bright spot in an otherwise horrible day---I just realized I had forgotten to put my favorite new visual stim toy( lensatic dancing penguins thing) in my now-stolen wallet. So at least I have that to help calm myself. Sometimes I am very glad to be so affected by things others consider childish and simple.

Good news! My wallet didn't get stolen, it just somehow got dropped and kicked into a hard to find corner, and someone kindly turned it in with all the cash intact. Too late to save me the hassle of getting all my cards replaced, unfortunately, but I had about a week's worth of grocery money in there and a book of stamps. Not to mention it's nice to know no one is out forging checks on my ID, which happened once before some years ago.
