NZ Earthquake

I hope you're nowhere near the earthquake Nyanchan and that all your family and friends are ok.

At least 98 people have been killed after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch, New Zealand.

 Yeah. Out of the danger zone, although it is surreal to think of what is going on just a few hours' drive away. Wish I could do something to help from the POV of cleaning up but the mayor is saying don't come this way. The folks of Christchurch are doing a brilliant job of picking up the pieces and I have nothing but admiration for the volunteers in the city who are working on the difficult clean-up operations.

Shocks happening in Christchurch and Wellington particularly have given many people the major jitters. I gotta say while with no illusion of immunity, I am not scared for myself personally, but more for what this might mean to the country if it happens again. But there is good news on the horizon -- our PM is saying that even now the rugby world cup might still be able to happen in Christchurch city.

That's as honest as I can tell it for now. Thanks Bella and I'm crossing my fingers so hard that the worst is over for everyone affected.

Glad you're ok nyanchan. I've seen some of it on the news. It's pretty bad out there. They said they are demolishing a lot of the buildings.

I didn't know that Wellington was getting shocks. That must be pretty scary. I thought it was only the South Island that is on the fault line and at risk of earthquakes.

The main faultline is primarily over the South Island, but there have also been off-shore and underground quakes in the North Island since September.

However, on a more pleasant note: Check out what some residents have set up in response.
