Still new to Linux & only tried (K)Ubuntu & Mint Lisa & Adriane. So far, the favorite (when my laptop isn't convinced it's hard drive is missing, so I can actually install it...) is Adriane. But for live mode use, given the odd power blips, etc, Lisa's easier to use, for now.... :P

Your favorite, then? 8-)

I have Ubuntu running the Gnome 3 shell that has been treating me pretty well. Battery life seems to take a turn for the worse though.

Do you have any suggestions for a Linux newbie? I've been meaning to try it for years and never got around to getting anything to work fully. I messed around with a couple of them, but could never get the internet to work. I have two laptops now that I can experiment with and not worry about screwing up, since I no longer use them (dead screens :( )

Only tried the 4 mentioned & any of those seemed pretty simple to set up, then there's the forums to find/ ask for solutions to problems, etc. Mint's particularly good if you play lots of videos, etc. Really not at all sure what advice you'd need, sorry- there's a lot of distros you could try? Forums full of advice/ tips, etc!

Just a little matter of wanting to keep my stuff from my Hard-disks. I've tried adding another hard-disk to my computer the other night, but the SCSI connector wasn't right for it and I needed to use another type from another socket. I'm afraid I might had done damage to the pins of the other hard-disk when I forced the SCSI on it. :(

When I tried the other SCSI ribbon, the computer didn't recognize it at all. Well for one thing, my main hard-disk is on one of those fire-wires and is the master, the SCSI ribbon it couldn't fit on is with the fire-wire thus the computer only recognizes hard-disks on the SCSI ribbon with the fire-wire.

The reason I want to go with freeBSD is cause of the old saying "Security through Obscurity" ....

Most of that's lost on me. This is really where everybody asks me questions, though?

........ For my question ? What's your laptop's specifications, brand name, and such ? I've once had a Dell latitude with docking station but it's broken to where it won't start up at all. I'd love to get it working again so I could set it up to test out my desktop's security and such :D
